Week 3 Year 2 - Monday, October 29th 2012

"Autumn alike spring, I've been at it again. Need to tet my own little place ready for winter. I hear it’s going to be a very cold one. Nothing short of a titanic enterprise, and only 2 very short days to complete it. A full immersion but for one diversion, a run in a cold and wet weather. Just like a cold shower, it will cool my burning passion... - "shut up SUB!" – Will be off in just a while for a very long shift thus time does not allow me to finish how I wish to what I was preparing. I'll give it to you next week. (Sunday 28th October 2012). This is why, dear readers and non readers, I am re-proposing a piece I wrote and published last spring -
Metropolis 4 - “Spring dilemmas”"

Warning – Don’t open that door. You’ve been there before and you know that once you get it started, there is no turning back. As I write I start humming bits of that great song “start me up!” from the Rolling Stones. Sometimes things I say remind me of a song, so that I start a sentence and end up singing the song. Absolutely disconnected, I know, but it’s a good sign, it only happens when I let go a little, and fortunately too. It’s spring time and as every year, I take the house down. I love the ritual. It makes me feel good and as light as a feather, probably because I get rid of a lot of stuff that gets piled up everywhere, not to talk about the dust. It’s amazing how dust loves books. They go together like bees on flowers, like the sun and the daylight. I think I may have interrupted their mating, but I’m not too worried about it because I know it will sneak back in no time. Naughty thing dust is!

To think of it, that would be a perfect example to explain the difference between passion and love. It’s spring time, everyone’s talking about it. There’s like a hormonal explosion all over the place. I say, kill it with a run, no need to walk around like headless chicks. The bee and the flower may well represent passion. I don’t know how it works exactly between those two, whether it's the bee or the flower to attract the other or if it's just a mutual fatal attraction, but one thing is sure, they attract each other, cannot hold it for a second longer, consume their passion and say goodbye. What happens between the sun and the daylight on the other hand is completely different. They embrace themselves gently every day, whatever the weather conditions. A very important detail. Together, they are a whole. I mean, if the sun was ever to be without the daylight and the daylight without the sun, they wouldn’t be as we know them to be, but a completely different thing. That’s love. It magnifies our essence and beauty. “Cause I see you true colors…” Here we go again, Cindy Lauper. Maybe? There is no daylight without sun and no sun without daylight. Isn’t that beautiful? what am I talking about? It’s spring time.

Sitting amidst my stuff, looking at it hoping it will jump back into place. I've seen it done in some movies. Move things around with the power of thought I would love that. I promise I won't abuse of thy power, please come to me! Taking down the house is fun. The problem is putting everything back together again. That’s when I wish I had a magic wand. Why do I keep doing the same mistakes all over? To begin with, I removed everything from the walls so that they could be given a fresh hand of paint. Problem is the nails were painted over too so that now l have to search for nails on my wall. I am so confused I can’t remember where each picture was hanging. That is a complication as I have to give it more time than I had estimated. Every imaginable corner, even the cat’s, drawer, closet, shelf, has been overturned. Now that I think of it, I haven’t seen the cat for some time. Cats hate confusion and they especially do not like it when their habitat is being dismantled, even if only temporarily. They’ll start with inquisitive looks, as if to ask “hey, where is my corner gone?”, when they know perfectly well where it is, to the left of the

Code name 40TW194 - The story of a secret flying agent Did you know that of all the animal species that have been awarded a medal for valor in Britain, pigeons come out as the bravest. Out of a total of 64 Dickin Medals awarded (Britain’s highest decoration for animal valor), 32 have gone to pigeons. 40TW194 is its code name. It's believed to have died in mission during the II world War. Its' skeleton was found in 1982 and obviously noticed only because of a red capsule tied to its leg. A coded message was found inside the capsule. The message is currently being analyzed by experts. - read article

The war of the publishers Looks like publishers are determined to battle hard. Just after news of the merger between Pearson and Bertelsmann, aimed at counteracting the pressure online retailers exert on them, France gives Google an ultimatum. President Hollande has asked the company to reach an agreement on copywriting with local publishers. French publishers expect to be granted a share of the turnover that the publication of news snippets generates for Google. The agreement must be defined by the end of the year, failing that the question will be entrusted to a law similar to the Google Tax enacted in Germany. - read article

Technologies and Publishing To cope with the increasing pressure online retailers alike Amazon are exerting, 2 publishing giants, British Pearson Group (Penguin Books) and German Bertelsmann Group (Random House books), are well into negotiating a merger that should see the light within the first half of 2013. New technologies have well made their way in the publishing world too, causing a redefinition of its distributive rules and business models, to the point they now represent a threat for all publishers: reduced retail prices, lower operating costs, wide range of choice and easier availability... The causes, which are also virtues of the rising if not already dominant new order are innumerable. For the time being this merger will only concern the Anglo-American market, though industry experts predict that this kind of procedure will spread worldwide. This should give life to a new business model where publishers will sell directly to consumers, bypassing libraries and other online retailers. I do hope this won’t mark the end for libraries. And perhaps Amazon too? - read article

Sandy A huge, slow and destructive storm is about to hit the the US East Coast (some 500 miles wide). So terrifying it is expected to be that even Wall Street shut down. That says it all! And as fascinated as I am by the strong images giving evidence of the deployment of the power of nature full force, that are broadcasted, my thoughts are with the people over there. I do hope they won't have to suffer excessive damages. Live Updates Here -
